Why Are There White Dots On My Area Rug?

As a rug ages, little by little, white dots can start to appear overtime.  These white dots are actually the knots at the foundation of the rug poking through to the top.  They originate from all the way back to the construction of the rug.  As the weaver made the rug, parts of the foundation have broken and these loose ends have been secured and tied off.  And as the rug is walked on, these knots can eventually get pushed up enough to appear on the surface of the rug.   These white dots are more of a cosmetic issue rather than something you would need to take care of immediately. Which leads into the next question, what can I do about it?

There are multiple ways to take care of these occurrences.  While it is perfectly fine to let them be, you can paint the dots to match the area they are in, or you can push the dots to the back of the rug to lessen their appearance.  While we would be more than happy to perform these services, I personally would just let them be and call it added character in the rug.
